Job Captain/Designer 2 - Multifamily
Job Title: Job Captain/Designer 2 - Multifamily
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Reports to: Project Architect
Job Description: The Job Captain/Designer 2 is responsible for proactively and collaboratively progressing projects through all phases of design. Under the supervision of a Project Architect, the Job Captain/Designer 2 contributes creative and technically sound design ideas, concepts, and solutions while serving as an integral member of the project team.
​
The role requires strong judgment, organization, and communication skills, with the ability to execute assign tasks efficiently and consistently while adhering to firm standards, project goals, schedules, and budgets. The Job Captain/Designer 2 demonstrates growing independence in production and coordination while continuing to work within the direction of senior team members.
​
This position is well suited for designers with a strong interest in technical design and project delivery who are motivated to grow into a Project Architect role over time, particularly within multifamily and mixed-use project types.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications:

5-8 years of professional experience; multifamily experience preferred
-
Professional degree in Architecture
-
Architectural license or actively progressing toward licensure
-
Working knowledge of multifamily building typologies, including Type III and Type V construction and podium buildings preferred
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Proficiency in Revit and Rhino or AutoCAD
-
Proficiency in PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Bluebeam and BIM 360

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for this position include:
-
Demonstrates a working knowledge of multifamily project requirements and complexity, proactively contributing to the success of the project team while adhering to firm standards and design intent
-
Develops creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions as part of a collaborative design team.
-
Coordinates and produces architectural drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect.
-
Takes and active role in the preparation of client and internal design presentations, including development of graphics an presentation materials.
-
Executes assigned tasks using sound judgment and a creative approach, complete work in an organized, timely, and consistent manner within established schedules and budgets.
-
Reviews own work for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and compliance with firm standards and project requirements.
-
Coordinates effectively with consultants and internal team members on assigned portions of the work
-
Maintains organized project files and documentation in accordance with firm protocols
-
Assists with permitting efforts, including preparation of documentation and responses to plan check comments, under the direction of the Project Architect.

Reviews shop drawing submittals and assists with RFI responses as part of the project team.
-
Performs product research and assists in identifying appropriate material selections consistent with design intent and project requirements.

Supports and collaborates with junior staff through informal guidance and knowledge sharing.
-
Participates in design reviews, charrettes, and pin-ups, contributing ideas and feedback in a clear and constructive manner.

Maintains open and effective communication with the Project Architect and project team, expressing ideas in a way that supports collaboration and shared understanding.

Demonstrates curiosity about design, building technology, and the architectural profession, and actively engages in studio culture and project discussions.

Job Description: The Sr. Job Captain is responsible for preparing the set of working drawings and specifications with minimal guidance from a Project Manager. The Sr. Job Captain decides the format and content of the drawings and is responsible for the entirety of contract documents.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications:

8-12 years of professional experience; retail experience preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Revit and Rhino or AutoCAD
