Nadel Architecture + Planning to Enhance the Repurposing of Retail Center With Artist Colony, Business Incubator

Nadel Architecture + Planning, a premier architecture and design firm based in Los Angeles, is pleased to announce it will be working on the repurposing of the Oddie District, one of Northern Nevada’s dynamic business and community destinations for artists and entrepreneurs, alike.

“All across America, visionary property owners have been navigating the changing economy and adjusting to new consumer behaviors. This is certainly the case in Sparks, Nevada, where the Oddie District serves a variety of local needs and provides the community with multiple reasons to come out and congregate,” said Rick Redpath, Principal and Shareholder of Nadel and head of the firm’s Phoenix studio, which is overseeing the demising portion of the project.

Currently a community fixture outside of Reno, Nevada, the Oddie District is home to a renowned artist colony that feeds sculptures and other works of art to national expositions, including the popular annual Burning Man festival in California. In addition to regular community art events, the site also includes office spaces within The Generator, a local business incubator that supports emerging enterprises, pitch sessions and investor events.

A respected design firm with 50 years of creative success, Nadel has been contracted to demise a large section of Oddie District – the 178,000 square foot interior of an existing Lowe’s Home Improvement store – and make enhancements to The Generator that will connect it to other parts within the district. The space within the Lowe’s site will become available for new leasing to be managed by owner, Oddie District LLC.

“Whether it’s retail, office space, residential, or all of the above, it is important for sites like this to remain vibrant and relevant because in many ways they serve as a focal point for their community,” Redpath said. “With modern facilities and flexible designs, we’re seeing a transformation of American retail landscape – all heading toward something more sustainable and beneficial for communities.”

Redpath expects the demising portion of the project to be complete by next year.
