Industry leading and Los Angeles-based Nadel Architects has tapped urban development and design leader Martin Leitner, AIA to lead their Multifamily and Infill Housing Studio. As Principal and Director, Leitner brings over two decades of experience spanning commercial urban development, transit-oriented communities, and suburban redevelopment and will build upon Nadel’s longstanding focus on community-driven design, tenant health, and sustainability across the region.
At Nadel, a design firm that has shaped the urban fabric of Southern California for 52 years, Leitner will spearhead efforts to deliver urban infill and suburban redevelopment projects that foster deeper community integration and exceptional tenant experiences. His expertise will play a critical role as the firm continues to strengthen its leadership in shaping Los Angeles’ evolving urban fabric, utilizing strategies such as material health and biophilic design. Under Martin’s leadership, Nadel’s multifamily studio will focus on projects that respond to today’s housing challenges, including but not limited to redeveloping underutilized suburban sites, leveraging state and local density programs, and delivering high-quality P3 housing to greater LA and beyond.
“As LA continues to grow denser and more dynamic, we need innovative infill strategies that maximize land value while enhancing community wellbeing,” Leitner said. “Nadel has more than 50 years' worth of design leadership and technical sophistication in delivery, bringing a nimble, boutique approach that enables truly responsive design. I’m energized by Nadel’s commitment to thoughtful design and urban integration.”
Born and raised in Berlin, Leitner has called Los Angeles home since 2004. His diverse background blends a deep understanding of architectural design, economics, and urban design, enabling him to navigate complex multifamily and mixed-use projects with an eye toward economic viability and livability. Leitner’s leadership roles include nearly a decade of involvement with the Urban Land Institute (ULI), where he currently chairs the Mobility Council, focusing on connected communities and multimodal urban development.
Greg Lyon, Chairman and President of Nadel Architects, added, “Martin’s deep expertise and passion for sustainable urbanism strengthen our mission to design spaces that truly serve people and communities. His arrival marks a meaningful next chapter in Nadel’s presence within multifamily housing and urban infill practice, reinforcing our promise to innovate with purpose.”
